It was close to the beach
overpriced due to quality and service
Hotel staff should improve their language skills.
We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights 13-18 November 2012 in a sea view deluxe room. The room itself was very clean, quite large and bright. All room facilities were there: coffee/tea maker, safe, bathroom accessories changed every day, mini bar, hair dryer, iron, flat screen tv that can play videos and photos from a usb stick, etc. Compliments and presents from a hotel like fruit plate, Chinese sweets, wishing sweet dreams, etc. Housekeeping did a great job! The swimming pool was good as well. The hotel territory is pretty compact but really well-designed. All food including breakfast at the Marina Cafe was also at the level of 5* hotel. We also liked but never used the gym, tennis court, atm, souvenir shop, etc. The majority of the guests are Chinese and Russian. We also noticed some couples from Finland, Germany and other parts of the world. The hotel is perfect for a quite rest near the swimming pool. There is not much action and fun going on at the territory. The personnel are trying hard to satisfy all the needs and to help.
First of all - personnel does not speak English! They just say some separate words that are so hard to understand. At all the facilities there is at least one person who speaks good English but still it's a challenge to communicate properly. Even at the reception desk. One day I wanted to purchase a pack of cigarettes but failed, even the gestures didn't help. The good thing that the personnel are trying really hard to help but the language barrier is an issue that has to be resolved. The beach is separated from the main territory by a road, but this is not a problem at all. The hotel really does have its own private beach. But the main thing that kept us away from the sea is lots of rubbish like paper tissues, cans, plastic bottles, cigarette butts. Quadricycles passing the hotel beach territory make it really annoying. Also ladies offering fruits are disturbing. There is safety guide book in a room telling how to act safely in Sanya, what to do and what not to do. One of the points there is a precaution not to use the private so called travel agents who offer their false service. Instead of that it is safer to use official travel agencies, car rentals, etc. At the same time I got annoyed by a person who called himself 'Mark' from Singapore. He walked freely in a hotel territory offering a visit to try a lobster at his restaurant, some tour, snorkeling, cheap duty-free shopping and so on. I got suspicious whet the next day I received an sms from him where he called himself 'Frank'. So I think the guy makes new names for himself all the time. When I asked him 'how come you are Frank when you introduced yourself as Mark?' He answered that that there is another person working with him whose name is 'Frank'. I tried to explain to him that we are not interested in his service but he was insisting each time he saw us. If this guy is a 'friend' of Holiday Inn or approved travel agent, give him some badge or t-shirt or cap with a Holiday Inn logo.
The Holiday Inn chain has a reputation that I trust. My intention was to be in a relaxing place on the beach front and be sure that I'd have tranquility and comfort, while having a good structure available to serve me in my needs, and all that I had at Holiday Inn Sanya Bay. The location is away from the city (20 min by car), and so it's quiet and calm; not much noise to disturb. Almost all services were great!
I disliked a few things during my stay, but I kind of understand that too. 1) Breakfast was large, big variety of items; missed scrumbled eggs and coffee (what they served was some powder mixed with water and tasted badly) 2) Food overall was ok, but tasted like fast food (quick and to supply your immediate need). There was a saturday nigh barbecue at the pool, but I did not have it (smell was good though!). 3) Staff in key positions were no so good when speaking english (room service, for example). Those are the points to improve (coffee and english first, please!)
Spacious rooms, nice pool, quiet, beach front.
Restaurants and receptions are smooking areas and it is unacceptable for an international hotel like this. The swimming pool beds are very uncomfortable, it is very painful at the body back, maybe need mattress. Many foods from the menu of the coffee shop are not available. If the staff is busy with dinner buffet at the pool, none care of guests seated in the coffe shop and ordering a la carte.
Good location, good price
Totally ignored the request I gave when I booked the hotel, I requested to have a double bed as I would go there with my husband, and a good view, but the room turned out to be a two-bed room in a corner with a wall outside blocking the view. And very noisy in the afternoon when gardeners cutting the grass. The door man is not very welcoming and not willing to help as well.
It's got a nice pool which is located next to the beach. The hotel landscape is nice, and the poolside bbq seafood buffet dinner every wed and sun is not to be missed. It is very ideal for both family relaxation and personal pleasure. Go for the pool view suite which is spacious and comfortable. I love the bathtub which has a see through open window from the bedroom. Two thumbs up!
The staff were very helpful and the pool was lovely. The beach was easily accessible and the rooms were of a very high standard in terms of comfort, cleanliness and facilities. The shower was very good, and the room safe was easy to use.
All the prices listed did not include the service charge of 15%. While I thought even with this the prices were fair, I would have preferred to have had everything included in all the given prices. The location wan't perfect in that it was a street of hotels with nothing else - I couldn't even find a convenience store nearby. Hopefully this will improve with time as the area develops more. There was some maintenance going on while I was there but it was only slightly distracting and not unreasonably so.
A good hotel for a laisure. Good facilities and value for money.Although it's a bit far away from the city center, it offers a comfortable vocation for those who look for rest and silence.
No entertainment facilities, which makes stay a bit boring. Breakfast is ok,but they mainly serve cantonese dishes, which is't a good option for european guests. They've got 2 restaraunts and again there aren't so many options to choose from as chinese and cantonese dishes are mainly beaing offered! And the main thing: the hotel stuff speaks a very poor English or don't speak it at all!
Staff not speaking english Poor Menu at Occidenta restaurant Pool table not available
Very nice pool area and just a few steps from the sea.
Due to the shape of the building, the sea view rooms are noisy ( noise coming from the road which is between the beach and the hotel. The rooms have enough space but are a bit old. What I really did not like: the hotel is asking for a deposit which they book off your credit card. Once you check out, they will not use that deposit, they will transfer the money back which takes about 3-5 days. So make sure you've got enough money on your card.
The pool was very good
The prices, especially with all the extra surcharges, were way too high for everything - food, drink etc. But also for the hotel itself (Bao Hong hotel at Dadong Hai was much better and half the price with a better location) The location was pretty but too far from the town/ facilities
all facilities were very good from front desk to the room, breakfast, swimming pool as well as beach swimming .
unavailability of adequate choice in Western cuisine for lunch and dinner. A menu displaying simply meals as well full meals at a variety of prices would have made my meal decisions less difficult.
Beautiful landscapes,comfortable facilities,friendly and supportive staff,good food
The pool view was very nice and the location was great! We also had very good service from most of the staff and especially Matt who was at the concierge.
The restaurants were very expensive and the breakfast was always the same. Also room service staff didn't speak English...kept passing the phone to other people and finally we just had to hang up. It happened several times.
